CAUSES AND REMEDIES OF THE PAIN IN CALVES

Calf muscles commonly known as calves are located at the back of lower leg. Calf muscle pain is generally associated with a short time and is curable. It is generally self induced and is caused due to continuous exercises or lack of following of proper methodology in exercise especially related to stretching. It can also lead to sprains and cramps which are usually caused due to improper way of stretching related in exercise. Pain that occurs in the calves on the lower part of the leg is the result of a pulled or torn calf muscle. This is called a calf strain or a calf pull. It occurs when part of the muscle of the lower leg (gastronomies or soleus) is torn away from the Achilles tendon.

In spite of these excessive running on steep hills, deficiencies in calcium, minerals, magnesium and dehydration are the other reasons of getting pain in the calves. The best solution for treating the calf muscle pain initially include treating of the muscle present in front of the leg called the dorsiflexor, muscles of the foot and ankle followed by the treating of the calves. This is because moving this muscle of the foot and knee lead to lengthening and contractions. Therefore walking on the heels will shorten the contraction. The treatment must also include the treating of the root cause of the tightness which is spinal nerve root problems. Yoga is a good exercise to relieve the pain in the calves. It has been proved to strengthen the affected muscles. However, it has to be done regularly under the supervision of a qualified yoga instructor.
