Why celebrity crash diets don’t work in the long run

Drop 20 pounds in 3 weeks by drinking nothing but lemon juice and pepper. Slim down by eating nothing but cabbage soup and maybe some grapefruit for snacks. These are only some of the crazy celebrity crash diets you’ve probably heard of and maybe have even been tempted to try. They look great so these diets must work right? Well, not exactly.
What all these crash diets have in common is that they basically starve you. It doesn’t matter if you’re eating grapefruits or celery sticks all day. You could be eating cookies all day and lose weight if that’s all you ate. The idea is that you drastically cut calories(and also nutrients) and quickly drop weight. But all these diets are short term fixes. Who wants to eat grapefruit all day every day? You wouldn’t want to even have cookies anymore after a week of nothing but cookies. But you will lose weight the first couple of times on these kinds of diets…..And muscle.
Three things usually happen after you go on one of these crash diets. You lose fat, you lose even more muscle, and you slow your metabolism down to a crawl. So now you’re 15 pounds lighter with the same body fat percentage, and a metabolism that’s only capable of burning two celery sticks and a graperfruit every day. And you still don’t have a tight toned physique because you haven’t been exercising and you lost what musle you had to begin with.
Eventually you’ll go back to eating regularly, and now because of your slower metabolism, you’ll gain weight even faster than you did before and will probably be heavier than you were when you started. And most people go back to eating how they ate before they started the diet because they never learned how to eat right for their body type and fit exercise into their lives. By wrecking your metabolism, crash diets always do more harm than good. The solution? A sensible diet and working out every week. Yeah, I know you’ve heard it before. But there’s really no other long term solution.
By working out on a regular bases and learning to eat properly for your goals you’ll find it easier to get the physique you want and keep it. You’ll keep your metabolism high and keep your mucles tight and toned. This way, you’ll not only lose weight, but you’ll improve your body fat percentage. This means you’ll have abs and tight arms. The best part is you’ll find that as long as you eat right most of the time, you can enjoy foods you like a couple times a week without it being a big deal.
